The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is exercising to launch a National Electro Magnetic Frequency (EMF) website which will list every mobile tower across the country by location and whether it is compliant or not compliant. This website is under testing stage has begun in Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra and Mumbai is expected to come online early next year.
Cellular operators Association of India (COAI) director general Rajan informed that ‘It’s in beta testing mode and we will take another two moths to complete the testing and after it will take another nine months to roll it out’.
In addition to the above Rajan stated, although the government has issued guidelines in this regard to state governments on safety norms and procedure to be followed for setting up towers, people are still hesitant about hiring out their roof tops for locating the BTS.
An EMF website aims at providing the reader with information about EMF and its effects on humans, backed by scientific reports. Lots of surveys are carried out on mobile radiation emitting from cellphone towers located in residential areas effect on human body.
