Enhancement of Service tax rate from 10.3% to 12.36%

Bharath Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has announced the revision of service tax on all its BSNL products without any change in the Sale value of the products. Accordingly service tax, education cess (2%) and Secondary & Higher Education cess (1%) to be levied on GSM services has been revised from 10.3% to 12.36% as under:-
Post paid:
Service tax for all Postpaid GSM Services to be charged @ 12.36% w.e.f.01-04-2012
Prepaid
Sim, Plan voucher and STV: No change in MRP and usage value
Topup/Easy recharge/Flexi Topup: Teh usage value is revised
GSM Data plan: No change in MRP and usage value
Circle Specific plans: BSNL has passed instruction to all its Telecom Circles and units may take appropriate necessary action on revised service tax.
