BSNL plans to set up 40,000 Free access WiFi Hotspots across the country

State owned Telecom Company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) likely to set up 40000 (Forty thousand) WiFi Hotspots in India causing investment of Rs.6000 (six thousand crores).
Minister of Telecom communication Ravi shankar Prasad on occasion of launching Free WiFi facility at Taj Mahal on his mobile in a statement said, ‘BSNL will set up 40000 WiFi hot spots across the country by end of 2018 estimated investment would be around Rs.6000 crores.

CMD of BSNL Anupam Srivatsava said that, ‘This year BSNL to set up another 2500 WiFi hot spots at 250 locations estimated value of Rs.500 crores’. From these already 200 WiFi hot spots been set up and remaining 50 is and work is under process.

BSNL will offer Free WiFi access to the customers for first 30 minutes on all BSNL enabled WiFi hot spots. After usage of Free limit of 30 minutes customer have to buy WiFi voucher packs available in various denominations ofRs.20, Rs.30, Rs.50, and Rs.70 for period One hour, 120 minutes etc. under Prepaid WiFi services.

Already BSNL launched WiFi facility at Dashashwamedha Ghat and Shitala Ghats of Varanasi. BSNL also plans to set up WiFi Hotspots at Fatehpur Sikri, Khajuraho and Jagannath Puri by end of March 2016.
