BSNL announced to launch Smart Payphone services across India

BSNL has decided to launch Smart IP Payphone (Smart Card based PCO) services on PAN India basis.

Sate run Telecom Company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) launched in Smart IP Payphone (Smart card based PCO) services in Tamilnadu Telecom Circle (Including Chennai) now has decided to make available these services in all Telecom Circles. 


As per latest information, BSNL’s competent authority in association with M/s Navitel Corporation Private Limited (NCPL) has planned extend the Smart Card based PCO services in other Southern Telecom circles (Andhrapradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana) as well in all Telecom Circles.

BSNL Smart Card PCO services

The VoIP server, RF requirement and its installation will be carried out by M/s Navitel and there is no capital investment to be made by BSNL company. BSNL will afford VPN access for IP payphone PCO through copper pair / ADSL Modem / RF Link / FTTH ONT. The connectivity of Smart IP payphone services will be based on the Intranet VPN access.

In this services all incoming calls and within PCOs VPN clouds will be barred in Smart IP payphones. At PCO areas, BSNL may have to provide free of cost – VPNoBB (VPN over Broadband) in case of ADSL, VPNoFTTH (VPN over FTTH) in case of FTTH as per agreement. 


BSNL Smart Card Payphone service (Smart PCO) services will be offered through chip integrated reusable smart cards which come with lifetime validity. Users needs to inserted in the payphone before dialing the desired number and the call charges will be deducted from smart card main account balance.


M/s Navitel will manage installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of the equipments, wireless equipments, Payphone services. In addition, in association with M/s Navitel BSNL will be installing Smart Payphones (Smart PCOs) in public places like Schools, Parks, Bus stations, Airports, Hospitals, Hostels and Colleges etc.
