BSNL Parnered with Facebook to provide Express WiFi Broadband connectivity in Rural areas

Largest Telecom PSU Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Facebook to popularize the Internet services across the country.

State run Telecom Company BSNL has linked an agreement with giant Social network company Facebook to provide Express WiFi Broadband services in India.

As per latest agreement, BSNL will share its bandwidth with Facebook to offer Internet facility through public hot-spots to users in rural parts of the country under Express WiFi services. Under this project BSNL planned to reduce the digital divide and support Digital India providing Broadband connectivity in remote and hilly areas where connectivity is low or poor.

In a statement Facebook Regional Head Munish Seth said, ‘To fulfill the vision of Digital India, BSNL is pleased to announce that it is working with Facebook to provide internet back-haul connectivity for its Express WiFi Program. As a part of this understanding, Facebook's Express WiFi ISP partners throughout India will be able to benefit from the vast reach of the BSNL network to help provide fast, reliable and affordable WiFi internet services to their communities, at even more affordable prices. We look forward to this partnership and working deeper with Facebook to connect India’.

Facebook plans to install 20,000 WiFi hot-spots in different regions across India under Express WiFi project. This piloted project in India covers more than 25 villages. Facebook has already signed agreements with other telecom operators like Tikona and Bharati Airtel to provide WiFi services.

Through Express WiFi network user can easily access Internet services by using monthly, weekly and daily data packs for their retail use or personal usage. To avail this service customer need to register their mobile number to connect Express WiFi hot-spots to start browsing or use any app on their device with high speed internet services.
