CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) unearthed BSNL Mobile RCCs and BSNL SIM cards Fraud

The CBI exposed huge fraud in the sale of BSNL recharge coupons and sim cards by an agency named Parklane Enterprises at Alappuzha BSNL Office worth of Rs.5.4 crore.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the anti-corruption wing of Kochi unit, carried raid on Alappuzha BSNL office and filed case against two officials in connection with the BSNL mobile recharge coupon fraud case. The CBI team detected glitch in transactions worth 5.4 crore and seized 270 fake documents during the raid.

The CBI has registered case against Two BSNL officials Thomas Mathew, Accounts Officer (AO) and Sajan Varkey, Junior Accounts Officer (JAO) of BSNL Alappuzha, under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Criminal conspiracy. The CBI also submitted the FIR against the officials before the CBI special Court, Ernakulam.
CBI SP, Kochi unit, K Krishnakumar said that the agency committed fraud with the help of the  BSNL officials. The agency submitted forged bank chalan for obtaining BSNL mobile recharge coupons from the Alappuzha office. The agency submitted 270 forged documents for the fraud and made transactions alter of 5.4 crore.  However, the exact loss incurred to the exchequer has not been estimated so far, CBI officials said.
The BSNL officers were supposed to check the authenticity of the documents. But they failed to do it and helped the company receive coupons without giving money in advance. The fraud was committed with the knowledge of the officials and the CBI is looking into the involvement of other officials, if any, in the fraud, said  CBI officials.
It is learnt that CBI will conduct further raids at other BSNL offices in the wake of the incident.
