BSNL take over MNTL mobile network and started services in Delhi and Mumbai

In association with Mahanagar Nigam Telephone Limited Mumbai and Delhi, BSNL manage MTNL mobile network areas and render its services in these metro cities.

Public telecommunications in India - Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) commenced operations in Delhi and Mumbai by taking over the MTNL mobile network starting January 1st, 2021. As per latest information from bsnl official website bsnl.co.in, DoT granted a unified license to BSNL on December 10, 2020 in 22 telecommunications circles in India, including Delhi and Mumbai, for a period of 20 years.

According to the latest information BSNL began operations in Delhi and Mumbai by taking over the MTNL mobile network. BSNL will act as the outsourced agency to execute the operations of the MTNL mobile network from January 1st, 2021. 

BSNL CMD submitted a proposal in this regard on October 27, 2020 to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). This proposal was discussed in detail with the directors of BSNL and MTNL in the presence of the additional secretary (DoT) on 15 December 2020.

Department of Telecommunications guidelines for mobile towers: Dept telecomm - DoT, on December 31st, 2020 in its letter, instructed CMD BSNL to commence MTNL's mobile network operations in Delhi and Mumbai from January 1st, 2021 as its outsourced agency. DoT also instructed CMD BSNL to complete all necessary documents as soon as possible. It was also reported that the responsibility for regulatory compliance will continue at MTNL for the LSAs in Delhi and Mumbai.

This means that Mahanagar telephone nigam ltd customers in Delhi and Mumbai will continue to enjoy mobile services on their current network. However, the operations of the MTNL mobile network will be managed by BSNL officials. 

There will be no change from the customer's perspective as DoT has made it clear that MTNL operates as such and will be responsible for all reporting and regulatory compliance.

Areas covered by MTNL: Delhi and Mumbai LSA

The Delhi service areas included the National Capital Region (NCR) such as Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, while the Mumbai service area covered New Mumbai and Kalyan.

As we have reported above, BSNL customers can enjoy seamless connectivity in the Delhi and National Capital Region Delhi (NCR) area in partnership with Vodafone. BSNL prepaid postpaid plans mobile customers located in the Delhi and NCR area can access the Vodafone Delhi mobile network in addition to MTNL roaming. 

Incoming voice call for BSNL customers roaming in Delhi with M/s Vodafone as VLMN will be charged @ Rs.0.45 per minute. The above charges / Telecom tariff apply to prepaid and postpaid BSNL mobile customers.

BSNL submitted an EoI (Expression of Interest) under Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Plan for 4G launch in India on January 1, 2021 for registration and participation in the upcoming 4G tender for Indian telecom companies. BSNL intends to deploy a next-generation 4G network at nearly 57,000 tower sites, including LSAs in Mumbai and Delhi.
