Live Cricket Updates via Value Added Service (VAS) barred

Hon’ble High Court of Delhi recently passed order to all the Telecom Operators and to its associated Value Added Service (VAS) providers (Third parties) about to stop ‘Live Updates of Cricket Alerts’ sending via sms for its customers under commercial purpose.

Star India said that, the Delhi High Court ordered all the telecom operators and MVAS providers in India to either push score updates with a delay of 15-minutes or pay a reasonable share of revenue generated via broadcast of live updates and at the same time scores to Star India by acquiring a license.

Star India after acquiring media rights in 2012 the Company itself monetizing its exclusive media to cricket matches organized by the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) until 2018.

Star India presented its justification that match information and data generated from a sporting event is a proprietary right which builds event organizer in the digital space.
