How to Get BSNL SIM Online with Self-KYC - Doorstep Delivery: Full details

Gone are the days when you had to visit a crowded BSNL customer care center, stand in long queues, and fill out tedious forms just to get a mobile connection. Embracing the digital revolution, BSNL has launched a game-changing initiative: Self-KYC SIM Activation with doorstep delivery.

Get BSNL SIM Online with Self-KYC - Doorstep Delivery: A Complete Guide

This new facility is designed to bring the ease of digital onboarding to every corner of India. Whether you need a prepaid connection, a postpaid plan, or want to port your existing number to BSNL via Mobile Number Portability (MNP), the entire process can now be initiated from the comfort of your home. In this guide, we will walk you through the step-by-step process of online SIM booking, self-KYC verification, and how the new delivery system works.

What is BSNL Self-KYC SIM Activation?

BSNL’s Self-KYC SIM Activation is a fully digital customer onboarding process. It leverages the power of Aadhaar-based verification and live photo capture to eliminate paperwork. The highlight of this initiative is the flexibility it offers: customers can choose to have the SIM delivered to their doorstep or pick it up from their nearest Common Service Center (CSC).

This initiative aligns with the government’s vision of a Digital India, ensuring that even people in remote areas with access to a CSC can get a mobile connection without hassle.

Services Available Under Online Booking

When you access the BSNL Online SIM booking portal, you aren't limited to just a standard prepaid SIM. The platform caters to a wide range of telecom needs:

  • Prepaid Connection: Perfect for users who prefer flexibility and control over their mobile expenses.
  • Postpaid Connection: Ideal for those who want uninterrupted service and monthly billing cycles.
  • Mobile Number Portability (MNP): Want to switch to BSNL’s robust network? You can port your existing number from any other operator seamlessly.

Step-by-Step Customer Onboarding Process

The process is streamlined to be user-friendly. Here is how you can book your BSNL SIM online:

1. Initiating the Request

To start, simply visit the BSNL website and scan the specific QR code provided for online SIM booking. This will redirect you to the mobile-optimized booking portal.

2. Location Check and Delivery Options

Once the portal opens, you will be asked to enter your PIN code. The system automatically checks the availability of delivery partners in your area.

  • If delivery is available: You will see an option for "SIM Delivery at Doorstep."
  • If delivery is unavailable: The system will guide you to collect your SIM from the nearest BSNL-approved CSC (Common Service Center).

3. Alternate Mobile Number Verification

You need to provide an alternate mobile number to receive an OTP (One Time Password). This step ensures the security of your application.

4. Aadhaar-Based KYC

As per government regulations, the KYC is Aadhaar-based. You will receive an OTP on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number to verify your identity digitally.

5. Live Photo / Video Capture

To prevent fraud and ensure the SIM is issued to the right person, the app requires a live photo or a short video capture. This is a crucial security step in the Self-KYC process.

6. Service Selection

After verification, select the service you require (Prepaid, Postpaid, or MNP).

SIM Delivery: Home vs. CSC Collection

Depending on your PIN code, the final step varies:

Doorstep Delivery: If you are in a covered area, a delivery partner will bring the SIM to you. You don't need to go anywhere.

CSC Collection: If doorstep delivery isn't available in your pin code yet, you can visit the designated CSC. The CSC personnel are well-trained to handle this new feature. They will verify your live photo, match it with the photo submitted during the booking, scan the issued SIM number, and mark it as "Delivered" in the system.

Important Note on FRC Payment

Currently, the online payment of the First Recharge Coupon (FRC) at the time of Self-KYC is not available. Therefore, the FRC amount must be paid physically at the time of SIM delivery (if delivered at home) or at the CSC (if you are picking it up). This ensures that your new connection is activated immediately with the required balance.

Why This is a Win for Pan India Customers?

For customers across India, this facility bridges the gap between digital convenience and physical availability. By leveraging the extensive network of CSCs and delivery partners, BSNL ensures that reliable connectivity is accessible to everyone, from metropolitan cities to rural villages. The system is secure, transparent, and incredibly fast, removing the friction of traditional SIM acquisition.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Can I pay for the SIM and the FRC online during the booking process?

  • No, currently the online payment option for the FRC (First Recharge Coupon) is not available. The FRC amount needs to be paid in cash to the delivery partner or at the CSC at the time of collecting the SIM.

Q: What happens if doorstep delivery is not available in my PIN code?

  • If the delivery partners do not service your PIN code, the system will automatically offer you the option to collect your SIM from the nearest Common Service Center (CSC).

Q: Is the Live Photo capture mandatory?

  • Yes, capturing a live photo or a short video is a mandatory security step. It ensures that the person applying for the SIM is physically present and matches the identity provided.

Q: Can I port my number to BSNL using this online facility?

  • Yes, absolutely. The online booking portal supports Mobile Number Portability (MNP). You can select the MNP option during the service selection step.

What are standard broadband plans (Standard broadband fibre)?

Standard broadband plans (Standard broadband fibre) are simply plans that offer the same benefits and are priced the same across all circles. To put it simply, bsnl offers all of its Broadband tariff plans at the same price and benefits across all telecom circles.

While there are only four telecom operators in India, there are many other Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and the number continues to grow as the days go by. As a result of the pandemic, all ISPs have received a boost as demand for fixed-line fiber Internet connection has grown.

Standard broadband fibre

Private operators such as Excitel and other lesser known companies have expanded their services in new parts of the country to acquire greater market share in line with the growing demand for the service.

However, there is one thing that all new private ISPs need to consider and that is whether their broadband plans are standard or not.

What are standard broadband plans?

Standard broadband plans are simply plans that offer the same benefits and are priced the same across all circles. To put it simply, JioFiber offers all of its plans at the same price and benefits across all telecom circles. Therefore, JioFiber offers "Standard" plans across India.

For the sake of it, instead of calling them standard plans, let's call them "coherent plans". Coherent broadband plans are much better than plans that offer various benefits in different environments across the country.

Why are standard / coherent broadband plans better?

Standard or constant broadband plans are better because psychologically they offer safety and comfort to the user. Also, it helps the user not to feel cheated. For example, if a user living in Delhi gets a 100 Mbps broadband plan from a hypothetical company called "XYZ" for Rs 1,000 and another user living in Mumbai simultaneously gets the same plan from the same company for Rs 700 rupees; the user living in Delhi would feel a bit betrayed.

Fibration costs, infrastructure development costs and other operational costs for businesses can vary in different regions. Regardless, broadband companies should focus on offering plans that offer standard plans to users across the country.

With standard / coherent plans, users can also move home or move their connection to another city or circle if they are moving home. That's why the plans of companies like JioFiber, Excitel, Airtel Xstream Fiber, BSNL Bharat Fiber look great.

At the same time, ACT Fibernet's plans appear to be very confusing, and this is the case with the plans offered by You Broadband in flagship cities.

Which modem is best for BSNL FTTH (Bharat Fiber) connection?

BSNL / LCO will provide compatible fiber modem (ONT/ONU) along with BSNL FTTH connection for outright purchase. If you are opting to purchase the modem online or from others, you need to check with BSNL or LCO regarding the brand / model of fiber modem to be purchased. It is because, FTTH connections are provided through OLT (Optical Line Terminal) Equipment which is placed at BSNL / LCO control room. In most of the cases, customer end optical modem should be of the same vendor as that of OLTE for proper working. Some vendors are even not allowing optical modems manufactured by other vendors to be attached to their OLTE. Some of the most common FTTH modems used in BSNL network are - Alphion, Netlink, Syrotech, DBC, Optilink, Genexis, Huawei, Khwahish etc.

WiFi Coverage / Bandwidth of FTTH Modem

If you are opting Bharat Fiber (FTTH) plans having more that 100 Mbps bandwidth, you may choose dual band FTTH modem having AC series WiFi. Using dual 5GHz WiFi band may give you maximum speed but with reduced coverage. For FTTH plans with speed up to 50 Mbps, normal single band fiber modem with N series WiFi will work seamlessly.
